Kernighan:

"I know, let's open the book with a program that displays 'hello, world.'"

Ritchie:

"Great idea! I'll start the patent search."

Ha ha, but in 1977 they hadn't invented "search" yet. They would have used gopher.

Yeah, right, use gophers for search. Ha ha. I'm with you. Also, they used a baby mastodon to wash dishes, and they drove their cars by sticking their feet through the floor and running along the road.

Gopher wasn't around till 91. The RFC was published in 93.
